Join me on my first day of freelancing as I share why I chose Fiverr, how I got started, and what it feels like to take that first step toward a side hustle.
Yesterday, I took my first step into the world of freelancing. I signed up on Fiverr, created my very first gig, and hit publish. Now, I've had my share of side hustles. Anyone who's been following this blog knows all about my attempts (and failures) at bringing in extra income. Will this be another "failure"? Perhaps. But I am at least giving it a try, and that's what matters most. I am opening myself up to a world of endless possibilities, and I'm hoping they are good ones.
The idea of freelancing has been on my mind for a while, but I kept hesitating. The first and most obvious reason for my hesitation was the competition out there. And I'm not just talking about other writers. Artificial intelligence has largely taken over the industry, and many writers are struggling to find gigs. I actually specialize in AI for my daytime job and I've always looked for ways that I can use AI to my advantage. In fact, I'm learning all about its strengths and weaknesses, and how I can exploit them. So here I am, trying to compete with AI in the writing industry.
Writing has always been a part of who I am. Over the years, I have done countless projects, journaling, and personal essays. I’m even in the process of writing a book, which has been a deeply rewarding journey. I do have a lot of confidence in my abilities — I know the value of clarity, precision, and getting to the point. These are skills that make my writing effective and could help clients get exactly what they need. My goal in freelancing isn’t just to offer a string of words on a page; it's to create writing that connects, informs, and resonates with readers.
Freelancing is new to me, and I know there’s a lot to learn along the way. But starting is the hardest part, and I’ve just taken that step. I’m curious to see how it grows. Nowadays we all need a little extra money on the side to help us sustain our existence. Feel free to send me an email or leave a comment if you've struggled finding work too.
